When you rule with an iron fist and a heart of steal, you pay with your flesh and blood. Hallmark Entertainment and Turner Network Television present “King Of Texas” starring Patrick Stewart, who also served as one of the film’s executive producers. The film is not a direct translation of Shakespeare’s text into another setting, but rather a loose interpretation much like the feature film “O” was loosely based on Shakespeare’s “Othello.”

Set in 1840s Texas, “King Of Texas” is the story of John Lear (Stewart), a war hero who fought alongside Sam Houston at the Alamo and conquered the rugged Western frontier to build his vast ranch. However, Lear’s biggest battle begins when he tries to divide up the immense ranch among his three daughters. This incites a full-blown family feud that results in a land battle with a neighboring Mexican rancher.

Is there anything Patrick Stewart can’t do as an actor? I’m not sure, but this is a great mixture of Shakespearean inspired tragedy and a rugged action-packed Western not to be missed.
