Warner Premiere Home Video
continues it’s stellar series of DC Universe animated films with the classic
tale of the origins of Green Lantern in Green Lantern First Flight, which
has been updated a bit for a new generation, but more or less stays true to the
origins of how pilot Hal Jordan becomes a member of the Green Lantern Corps and
is assigned to their most honored Guardian Sinestro for training unaware that
the best among them will soon betray them to create his own peacekeeping force.
The art is top notch as always and while there is some cartoon violence and even
a few deaths, the movie has a few surprises in it and stays focused on the
entire birth of the superhero/super villain paradigm. There are a few elements
left open ended presumably to fans to fill in on their own.
The picture quality is quite vibrant with a well-mixed English Dolby
Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtrack along with English Subtitles For The Deaf And
Hearing Impaired and French Language Subtitles encoded as options. The film is
presented in a 16 by 9 enhanced matted widescreen aspect ratio.
Bonus materials include a standard
definition digital copy of the film for Windows users as well as several
featurettes that include a preview of the next DC Universe animated film Superman/Batman:
Public Enemies (7:49) and featurettes promoting other DC Universe animated
titles now available on home video that showcase Justice League: The New
Frontier (10:44), Wonder Woman: The Amazon Princess (10:25), Batman:
Gotham Knight (10:09), and the DC Comics event Blackest Night (8:51).
There are also featurettes focusing
on the mythology of Green Lantern with New York Times Best Selling Writer Geoff
John (8:41), character profiles for The Guardians of the Universe (3:39) and
Sinestro (4:01) as well as three animated bonus shorts handpicked by Bruce Timm.
These are two episodes of Justice League Unlimited that run approximately
23 minutes each and a crossover episode of Duck Dodgers entitled The
Green Loontern (22:22).
The menus on both discs are
standard interactive still frames that are easy to navigate. Green
