October 29, 2009 - Today GENRE ONLINE.NET is officially ten years old. I still remember when I first launched the site using free web space. Back then I was a freelancer for a number of websites as well as the Head Writer at The Digital Bayou. There were not a lot of genre film sites and DVD was still in it's infancy. People were still using VCRs and dial up modems. My goal was to be a grassroots resource where anyone can read genre film and TV reviews and interviews. I have written thousands of media reviews and been able to talk to some of my genre heroes along the way. After ten years, GENRE ONLINE.NET has become like my baby. I have invested a lot of myself into it and I'm happy to still be here after ten years. It feels good.
There are no one man shows. Without the support of the studios, independent and corporate distributors, retailers, publicity and public relations professionals, family, friends and most importantly, the readers, no publication like this on or offline would survive so thank you all. This is your achievement as much as it is mine.
Wow, you'd think I won an award or something after reading what I wrote above, right? Well in a way I have so thank you all again.
Sincerely,
Mark A. Rivera
